Nonchalant

Nonchalant
Stuck in a see-through shell
Need to be an anomaly
Stand where you almost fell
With your back up against the wall
Playing the options well
Keeping in good society
Too far removed to tell
If you're even around at all

Saw you, plain as day
Acting silly in the hallway
Adamant was your display
That you have all the fun you want
Tried to light the way
But you'd rather fool me always
Holding back your knowledge
As you try to be nonchalant

What word could they have sent
Echoing through your corridor?
No telling where it went
To attract such a wide reply
Playing the innocent
Only more for you to ignore
As you think of reasons
To prevent me from learning why

With an outside interest
Insulated from engaging
The confused expression
Of your stumbling confidante
Okay, you know best
For the caper you are staging
Causing a depression
When you dare to be nonchalant

Such a naughty girl
Someone should take her on the knee
Show her the way the world
Would become, sudden as a shot
Someone should smash the pearl
She mistakes for reality
Get her focussed on the only
Window that we have got

Knows she won't be
Caught without a valid cover
Dwelling on the matters
That are likely to come back and haunt
Vainly out to see
Anguish added to my shudder
Accuracy scatters
In the face of the nonchalant
